Portugal recently introduced a new
€20 monthly Green Rail Pass, aimed at making rail travel more affordable and accessible.
This pass allows for unlimited travel across most national train services, including second-class Intercidades and select urban trains.
However, it
does not cover high-speed Alfa Pendular or international services like the Celta.
To use the Green Rail Pass, passengers are required to make seat reservations, which are available up to 24 hours in advance at ticket offices and vending machines.
The pass can also be used on regional urban trains, but it has some limitations in the metropolitan areas of Lisbon and Porto.
This initiative is part of Portugal's broader effort to promote sustainable transportation and reduce the cost of commuting, aligning with environmental goals.
