Tips for Drug selection for research
Are you research scientist or pre-doc student or who are you? You can tell us [Click here]
We are 100% sure that you are involved in research somehow, specially investing about drug.
Let´s share our experience here free of cost which may be useful for you.
There are tons of drugs either they are in the market or they are pre-clinical and clinical trials phase.
Which drug we have to select for our investigation? This is always in our mind.
Because most researchers want that their final result of investigation achieve to get a commercial value beside gaining a contribution in the progress of the scientific world, thus getting awarded a scientific reputation.
If you are performing an investigation in collaboration of an industry partner, then, you have not to worry about commercialization.
Because industry partners of R&D always want a return of investments done in research, and they may ask you to sign an pre-agreement for exclusive right of results of investigation.
Nevertheless, the investigation is performed in collaboration and you cannot avoid this.
Next option will be to use those drugs which patents are expired. Patent is valid only for 20 years.
But in most cases, the industry, who is patent owner of a drug, make a new drug molecule that is very similar to original drug molecule.
They do by introducing a very small change in drug molecular structure, thus, they retain the commercial right.
But you can use patent expired drug molecules for your research and can achieve any new and innovative research finding that you can patent and commercialize.
You have selected a drug for your research purpose but always you have to think these two standards:
1:- A drug don´t enter in cytoplasm of the cells and it stimulates cell surface molecules, thus, starts execution of the signalling pathways.
2:- A drug enter in the cytoplasm of the cells, thus, it works.
In the first case, you can use click-chemistry to bind the drug with a surface but in second case, it cannot applied.
You have to perform extensive bibliography research and think thoroughly, and then, make a good plan for selecting a drug for research purpose.
