Threads a New Red Social

 

Threads is the latest social network launched by Meta. 

Taking advantage of the turmoil experienced by X, formerly known as Twitter, following its acquisition by Elon Musk, Meta stepped up its game to achieve a "monopoly" on social networks. 

This was a strategy to attract dissatisfied users and create a better product that integrates seamlessly with their existing social networks.

Between 2022 and 2023, the Instagram team developed and introduced Threads to the public. 

It was officially launched on July 5, 2023, but did not reach Europe until December 14. In its first 24 hours, it reached a staggering 70 million users and is now approaching 150 million.

Threads is designed to integrate perfectly with Instagram, allowing the sharing of images, text, and videos while maintaining the traditional microblogging style of Twitter. Content from Instagram and Threads can be shared across both social networks to achieve more views.

Threads focuses on facilitating communication between close friends and family, offering a platform that stands out for its simplicity and privacy.

• Integration with Instagram: Threads is closely linked with Instagram, allowing users to log in with their Instagram accounts and maintain a seamless experience between both platforms.
• Privacy and Closeness: The app is designed for interaction with your Instagram close friends list. You can share status updates, photos, videos, and messages with a select group of people, maintaining greater control over who sees your content.
• Automatic Status Updates: A notable feature of Threads is its ability to automatically update your status based on your activity, location, and other factors. This feature, called "Auto Status," lets your close friends know what you're up to without needing to manually write each update.
• Simple Interface: Threads has a minimalist and user-friendly interface focused on the camera, making it easy to quickly send photos and videos.
• Messaging Focus: While it allows sharing stories and statuses, Threads is primarily geared towards direct messaging, offering a more intimate and private alternative to conversations on Instagram.
• Privacy: Meta has placed significant emphasis on privacy with Threads, providing detailed controls over who can see your updates and communicate with you.

Threads represents Meta's effort to offer a more private social network focused on communication between close friends, in contrast to broader, more public social networks.

Its launch is part of Meta's strategy to diversify its services and capture different segments of users with specific communication needs.

Meta has announced future updates in which they promise to create a decentralized ecosystem, a feed with minimal algorithmic interference, and a more comprehensive profile. 

On March 24, 2024, the Fediverse was launched in beta phase.

The advantage is that Meta's advertising system allows you to post on Instagram, Threads (in progress), and Facebook simultaneously, adapting the ads for the different platforms.
