How to add WhatsApp to a Website

I have several websites and diligently update their content daily. 

However, I've been pondering how to better connect with my community of visitors. 

Among the various methods available, I believe providing a WhatsApp option is one of the best ways for immediate communication and consultation on any issue.

Here's what I've done:

Firstly, I conducted thorough research on the internet to understand how to integrate WhatsApp with my websites. 

Then, I turned to AI to delve deeper into related questions and seek further guidance. 

Finally, I gained a clear understanding of how to link WhatsApp with my websites, allowing visitors to communicate with me directly if they prefer not to use email.

By implementing this feature, I aim to enhance engagement and foster a stronger connection with my website's community. 

Now, visitors have the convenience of reaching out instantly for assistance or inquiries.

Step-by-step guide

Generate the WhatsApp Link:

Open a web browser and go to WhatsApp's Click to Chat generator page: https://wa.me/

Enter the phone number you want to link to, including the country code but excluding any + or - signs. 

For example, if the phone number is +1234567890, you would enter it as 1234567890.

Click on "Continue to Chat."

Note: I did not find any such Chat generator page on WhatsApp webpage. 

Format the Link Manually:

Instead of using a dedicated generator page, you can manually format the WhatsApp link using the following structure: https://wa.me/ followed by the phone number, including the country code but excluding any + or - signs.

For example, if the phone number is +1234567890, the formatted link would be: 

https://wa.me/1234567890.

Customize the Link (Optional):

As mentioned earlier, you can add additional parameters to the end of the link to customize its behavior. 

For example, you can include a predefined message by adding ?text=YourMessageHere to the end of the URL.

Replace "YourMessageHere" with the desired message text, making sure to encode spaces as %20 and any other special characters as their corresponding URL encoding.

For example, you can add ?text=Hello%20there! to the end of the URL to pre-fill a message saying "Hello there!" when the user opens WhatsApp.

Add the Link to Your Website:

Once you've formatted the WhatsApp link, you can add it to your website by inserting it as a button, hyperlink, or any other appropriate element.

Depending on your website platform and editing capabilities, you can add the link using your CMS (such as WordPress) or directly in your website's HTML code.

Note: I used Bing/Copilot/designer to generate four buttons with my own texts, then I selected one for my websites and linked with WhatsApp url.

Test the Link:

Before making the link live on your website, be sure to test it to ensure that it functions as expected. 

Clicking on the link should open WhatsApp with a chat window initiated with the specified phone number.
